How did Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim get a 20 year sentence when at first it was stated he was sentenced to 10 years in jail. At 3.30 pm on Monday, the Special CBI court judge pronounced the first verdict awarding him a 10 year sentence.
An hour later, the judge pronounced the second verdict which handed Ram Rahim another 10 year sentence. It was however only by 6 pm did the judge clarify that the sentences would not run concurrently but consecutively.
It was clarified that he would spend 20 years in jail for the rape of two women. It was the case of the prosecution that he had raped two women. The CBI was in fact ready with a second set of arguments had the judge held that he would serve the sentence concurrently. The CBI would have sought for the sentences to run consecutively.
