Indian Armed Forces Notify Pakistan DGMO of Violations of May 10 Military Understanding

The Indian Armed Forces have communicated with Pakistan through a hotline, addressing a breach of an agreement made between the two countries. Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Director General Military Operations, stated that India is prepared to respond strongly if such violations occur again. This message followed accusations from New Delhi that Islamabad had violated the agreement shortly after it was reached.

Indian Forces Alert Pakistan on Violations

Lt Gen Ghai emphasised that the Indian Armed Forces have shown considerable restraint so far. He stated, "Any threat to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and safety of our citizens will be met with decisive force." The DGMO highlighted India's firm stance on responding fiercely to any repeated violations.

Understanding Reached Between India and Pakistan

On May 10, India and Pakistan agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea. This understanding came after several days of intense cross-border conflicts involving drones and missiles. The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries reached this agreement during a call on the afternoon of May 10.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri urged Pakistan to address these violations responsibly. He mentioned that instructions were given on both sides to implement the understanding. The DGMOs are scheduled to communicate again on May 12 at noon to discuss further measures.

Security Review and Counter-Actions

Earlier in the day, Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi conducted a security review. He granted full authority to Army commanders for counter-actions if any violations occur. This decision underscores India's readiness to respond decisively in the kinetic domain if necessary.

The DGMO recalled his conversation with his Pakistani counterpart on May 10. During this discussion, they agreed to cease hostilities starting at 5 p.m. that day. However, within hours, Pakistan reportedly violated this agreement with cross-border firing and drone intrusions.

Response to Violations

The DGMO reported that these violations were met with robust responses by Indian forces. "Through last night and in the early hours of the morning today, these violations were responded to robustly," he said. Despite these challenges, India remains committed to maintaining peace while being prepared for any eventualities.

During a media briefing, Lt Gen Ghai addressed questions about potential strategies from Pakistan's armed forces. He stated that India's focus is on its own plans and roadmap, which they intend to follow diligently.

Intrusions and Ceasefire Violations

Lt Gen Ghai clarified that there have been no crossings of the international boundary by Pakistan's army along the Line of Control or in plain sectors. However, airspace intrusions have occurred. Attempts at infiltration along the Line of Control during ceasefire violations have been effectively thwarted by Indian forces.

The DGMO noted that it is challenging to determine whether these activities are carried out by terrorists or Pakistani special forces. Nonetheless, each attempt has been successfully countered without specifying a timeline for these events.

The situation remains tense as both nations navigate this delicate period following their recent agreement. The upcoming discussions between the DGMOs aim to solidify measures ensuring long-term adherence to the understanding reached on May 10.
