Home Ministry advisory on law & order ahead of Hanuman Jayanti

The Union Home Ministry has issued an advisory to all states on law and order ahead of Hanuman Jayanthi.

The advisory states that the states and Union Territories are advised to maintain law and order for the peaceful observance of the festival.

The advisory comes days after violence and vandalism had been reported on Ram Navami in West Bengal and Bihar.

"The state/UT governments are encouraged to ensure the maintenance of law and order, peaceful observance of the festival, and monitoring of any factors that could disturb communal harmony in society," the Home Minister's Office said in a tweet.

This comes after the Delhi Police took out a flag march in Delhi's Jahangirpuri, where violent clashes had taken place during Hanuman Jayanti last year. The Delhi Police also denied permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and another group to take out a procession on the occasion on April 6.

West Bengal had witnessed ugly violence in Howrah and Hooghly on Ram Navami. The Calcutta High Court has asked the state government to requisition central forces to assist the police to maintain law and order during Hanuman Jayanti. The court also ordered the Centre to make swift deployment on the receipt of requisition from the state.

The violence that took place on Ram Navami had turned into a slugfest between the Bengal government headed by the Trinamool Congress and opposition BJP. Both parties have traded barbs at each other since violent clashes and incidents of vandalism had been reported.
