Hindu Groups in Shimla Call for Withdrawal of Nobel Prize Awarded to Muhammad Yunus Amid Protests

Protests erupted in Shimla as various Hindu groups voiced their concerns over alleged violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. The demonstrators demanded the revocation of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Muhammad Yunus, who serves as the chief advisor to Bangladesh's interim government. The protest was organised by social organisations under the Defenders of Human Rights (DHR) banner.

Shimla Protest Demands Nobel Prize Withdrawal

Ajay Srivastava, DHR convenor, highlighted the plight of the Hindu community in Bangladesh. He noted that Hindus, who supported the Mukti Vahini and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during Bangladesh's formation in 1971, are now being targeted. Srivastava accused Yunus of having a "jehadi mentality" and blamed him for encouraging attacks on Hindu and Buddhist temples.

Allegations Against Muhammad Yunus

Protesters claimed that since Yunus assumed his advisory role on August 8, attacks on Hindus and their places of worship have continued without pause. They urged the Bangladeshi government to safeguard minority rights and prevent further atrocities. The demonstrators expressed anger over what they described as ongoing repression and genocide.

Srivastava called for legal action against Yunus at the International Court of Justice. He also urged the Nobel Prize committee to reconsider Yunus's 2006 peace prize award. According to Srivastava, Yunus is the mastermind behind these attacks, which violate human rights.

Demands for Minority Protection

The protesters emphasised the need for Bangladesh to protect its minority communities. They argued that the government should take immediate steps to halt violence against Hindus and ensure their safety. The demonstration aimed to draw attention to these issues and push for international intervention.

The protest in Shimla reflects broader concerns about minority rights in Bangladesh. It underscores the need for dialogue and action to address these allegations. The demonstrators hope their efforts will lead to positive change and justice for affected communities.
