Hindu Organisations Urge Indian Government to Safeguard Minorities in Bangladesh

Several Hindu organisations have urged the Centre to safeguard Hindus in Bangladesh, where unrest has followed the collapse of Sheikh Hasina's government. Groups like Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak and Manav Seva Pratisthan gathered in Mumbai's Dadar, chanting slogans against alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. They demanded that the Union government take immediate action to protect Hindus in the neighbouring country.

Ranjeet Savarkar, working president of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, stated, "The ongoing protest in Bangladesh has now become anti-Hindu. The Union government must swiftly act against it and enter Bangladesh to merge the Hindu majority region with India." This sentiment was echoed by Abhay Vartak of Sanatan Sanstha, who urged Hindus in India to protest for the protection of their community members in Bangladesh.

Demands for Government Action

The gathering included members from Vajra Dal, Yog Vedant Samiti, Suyash Mitra Mandal, Shri Shivarajyabhishek Dinotsav Samiti, Sanatan Sanstha, and Hindu Janjagruti Samiti. They signed a memorandum outlining their demands to be submitted to the government. One of their key demands was that Hindus seeking refuge in India should be facilitated through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Mahesh Vasu, present at the Dadar gathering, described the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh as "very serious." He highlighted the urgency for immediate intervention to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of Hindus there.

Violence and Vandalism

Since Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India, several Hindu temples, homes, and businesses have been vandalised. At least two Hindu leaders associated with Hasina's Awami League Party have been killed during this period of violence. The Hindu organisations stressed that these incidents underscore the need for prompt action by the Indian government.

The organisations believe that merging Hindu-majority regions of Bangladesh with India could be a solution to protect Hindus from ongoing violence. They argue that such a move would provide a safe haven for those facing persecution.

The memorandum signed by these groups will be presented to the government, urging them to take decisive steps to address the crisis faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. The organisations hope that their collective voice will prompt swift action from the authorities.
