Hindi is not compulsory, says Central Govt
President Pranab Mukherjee's approval, dated March 31, had asked the HRD ministry to make serious efforts to make Hindi compulsory.
The Central government on Tuesday said there is no imposition of Hindi language and that the recommendation by the government is a request.

Further, the Central government stated that it doesn't entail any order or instruction as far as imposition of Hindi language is concerned.President Pranab Mukherjee's approval, dated March 31, had asked the HRD ministry to make serious efforts to make Hindi compulsory.
However, the presidential approval was opposed by state governments.
DMK working president MK Stalin had alleged that Union government of imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking citizens.
