Himachal Pradesh Budget to Focus on Natural Farming, Self-Employment
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unveils plans for the upcoming budget, emphasizing natural farming with assured purchase by the state government and promoting self-employment among the states youth.
Shimla/Solan, December 9: In a significant move to boost farmers' income and promote sustainable agriculture, the Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has announced that the upcoming budget will feature new provisions on natural farming with assured purchase by the state. Given the state's unique geographical conditions, natural farming will take center stage in the upcoming budget, prioritizing and promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices.

Encouraging Self-Employment and Recognizing Academic Excellence
Addressing the college convocation ceremony in Solan district on Saturday, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the need for the state's youth to embrace self-employment. He highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and urged young people to explore opportunities beyond traditional employment. At the 12th Convocation of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Sukhu conferred 23 gold medals to meritorious students, recognizing their outstanding academic achievements.
Empowering Women and Ensuring Gender Equality
The chief minister celebrated the achievements of women students, noting that 20 out of the 23 gold medal recipients were girls. He reiterated the state government's commitment to empowering women and ensuring gender equality. Sukhu emphasized that women hold key decision-making roles in various districts, serving as Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs). Furthermore, the state government has pledged to provide 30% reservation for women in constable positions within the state police.
Considering Raising the Legal Age of Marriage for Girls
In a progressive move, the chief minister announced the formation of a committee to consider raising the legal age of marriage for girls from 18 to 21 years. This initiative underscores the government's focus on women's empowerment and the importance of their involvement in societal progress.
Governor Encourages Practical Research and Interdisciplinary Studies
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, who graced the occasion, urged students to focus on solving real-world problems faced by farmers. He stressed the significance of translating research findings from laboratories and books into practical applications in the fields. Presiding over the convocation, the Governor awarded merit certificates to 773 students and presented degrees to 1,305 graduates in various horticulture and forestry disciplines.
Improving University Performance and Promoting Collaboration
Governor Shukla highlighted the need to further enhance the university's performance, currently ranked 17th in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research rankings. He commended the university for introducing the Academic Management System, which aims to improve academic practices, digitization, and data management. The governor also emphasized the importance of promoting interdisciplinary studies and international collaboration to drive innovation and excellence in research.
Introducing Natural Farming Courses and Inaugurating New Facilities
In line with the focus on natural farming, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Rajeshwar Chandel, announced the introduction of graduation and post-graduation courses in natural farming from the next academic session. Additionally, the governor and the chief minister inaugurated a skill development hostel built at a cost of Rs 1.16 crore and a Vivekananda Yoga & Meditation Center constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lakh.
The Himachal Pradesh government's commitment to natural farming, women empowerment, and academic excellence sets a positive precedent for the state's future growth and development.
