Shimla, Nov 18: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's son Vikramaditya Singh Monday won the state Indian Youth Congress (IYC) election by 5,182 votes, an election official said here.

He defeated his nearest rival Shekhar Sethi in an almost one-sided contest.

While Vikramaditya, 24, polled 5,514 votes, Sethi got 332 votes.

Election officials said there were 42 candidates in the fray for the state IYC executive. Over 11,800 voters exercised their franchise.

"Since Vikramaditya got the maximum votes, he is heading to become the next IYC president," said an official.

While Vikramaditya, 24, polled 5,514 votes, Sethi got 332 votes.

Expressing happiness over his victory, Vikramaditya told IANS: "This is victory of the youth. I will work harder to live up to their expectations."

The Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections (FAME), an independent agency commissioned by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, conducted the IYC polls.

In January last year, FAME had declared Vikramaditya's November 2011 election to the IYC null and void as there were complaints of violation of the code of conduct.

Political greenhorn Vikramaditya, who had won that election by a huge margin, was debarred by FAME from re-contesting the elections in 2012.
