India Dispatches High-Level Delegation to Saudi Arabia After Tragic Bus Accident Involving Indian Pilgrims

Following a tragic bus accident near Madina, India is sending a high-level delegation to Saudi Arabia. The team will assist in relief efforts and participate in the last rites of the deceased Indian pilgrims.

A delegation from India will visit Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to aid and supervise relief efforts after a tragic accident involving Indian pilgrims near Madina. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the delegation will also attend the last rites of those who lost their lives. This follows a devastating bus accident involving Indian Umrah pilgrims, mostly from Telangana.

Early Monday, a bus carrying over 40 Indians collided with an oil tanker near Madina. The accident resulted in numerous fatalities, with most victims being Indian nationals. The bus was travelling from Mecca to Madina when the incident occurred around 1:30 am IST. Officials from the Indian mission in Jeddah quickly arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation.

Indian Government's Response

The Indian government expressed deep sorrow over the accident, extending condolences to the families of those who died and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. "We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured," stated the MEA. A high-level delegation led by Andhra Pradesh Governor Shri Justice S Abdul Nazeer will visit Saudi Arabia to assist and coordinate relief efforts with Saudi authorities.

Accompanying Shri Justice S Abdul Nazeer will be Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary of Consular, Passport, and Visa Division and Overseas Indian Affairs at MEA. The Embassy of India in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah are collaborating with local authorities to expedite identifying the deceased's remains.

Support for Affected Families

The Indian government is facilitating travel arrangements for families of the deceased to Saudi Arabia. They remain committed to supporting Indian nationals affected by this tragedy, ensuring swift and effective assistance. The Ministry of Haj and Umrah is among the Saudi authorities coordinating with India on these efforts.

The tragic accident has prompted a strong response from both governments, highlighting their commitment to addressing this unfortunate event's aftermath. The focus remains on providing necessary support and ensuring that all affected individuals receive timely help during this difficult time.
