Here's what Himanta Sarma has to say on moving Amritpal Singh aides to Assam jail

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the cooperation between the Punjab and Assam police after four aides of radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh were moved to Dibrugarh.

"When one time there were arrests in Assam, we had flown some accused to Bihar's Bhagalpur jail due to security reasons. Punjab police might have thought its better for the suspects to be in Assam. This is a police-to-police co-operation," Sarma told news agency ANI.

Notably, four members of an outfit headed by Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh, who were arrested in Punjab, have been brought to Assam's Dibrugarh on Sunday in a special flight.

The action was part of the crackdown launched by the Punjab Police on Waris Punjab De members who stormed the Ajnala Police station with swords and sticks and engaged in a brawl with the police that injured several officers.

The Punjab government had on Saturday launched a major crackdown against Singh, a radical Sikh preacher and Khalistan sympathiser, with the police arresting 78 members of the outfit headed by him, officials said.

The elusive preacher, however, gave the police a slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district, even as authorities stepped up security at several places in the northern state.

As the operation went underway, authorities stepped up security at several places and suspended internet and SMS services in the state. The manhunt was still on and Amritpal has been declared a fugitive.

Also, the suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Punjab have been extended till Monday noon Inspector General of Police (Ludhiana range) Kaustabh Sharma said police did not allow them to hold the 'dharna' and were taken into custody.

Flag marches were taken out in Nawanshahr, Dakha and Sidhwan in Ludhiana, police said, adding, "There is complete peace."

The police action also comes ahead of the start of Amritpal's 'Khalsa Wahir' - a religious procession - from Muktsar district.
