Haryana Women's Commission Urges Chief Minister to Transfer IPS Officer Accused of Sexual Harassment

A letter accusing a Haryana IPS officer of sexual harassment has gone viral on social media. In response, Renu Bhatia, the state Women Commission chairperson, has urged Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to transfer or place the officer on leave during the investigation. The letter, reportedly signed by seven female officers, surfaced last Friday and has since gained significant attention.

Haryana Womens Panel Calls for IPS Officer Transfer

The Haryana Police initiated an inquiry after the allegations emerged online. Hisar Range Additional DGP M Ravi Kiran confirmed that a fact-finding investigation is underway. The accused IPS officer has requested a thorough probe into the matter to ensure transparency and fairness.

Investigation Underway

Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Astha Modi is leading the investigation. She is currently recording statements from female police personnel in the district where the accused officer is posted. So far, she has gathered testimonies from about 60 out of nearly 150 women officers stationed there.

On Tuesday, the accused IPS officer appeared before the Women Commission in Faridabad for approximately 30 minutes. During this meeting, he denied all allegations against him. Meanwhile, Astha Modi participated in the session through video conferencing to provide updates on the ongoing investigation.

Commission's Recommendations

In her communication to the chief minister, Renu Bhatia highlighted the urgency and seriousness of the situation. She recommended that the IPS officer be transferred or placed on leave to prevent any influence on the investigation process. Bhatia emphasised that this step is crucial to maintain the integrity of the inquiry.

The letter also accuses two female police personnel from the district of colluding with the IPS officer. One of these officers later filed a FIR against a social media platform administrator for allegedly distorting facts related to the case.

The Women Commission has taken note of how rapidly this issue is spreading across news channels and social media platforms. Bhatia's letter stresses that public awareness of this matter necessitates swift and impartial action by authorities.

The situation continues to unfold as investigators work diligently to uncover all relevant details. The outcome of this inquiry will be closely monitored by both officials and the public alike.
