Chandigarh July 31: The Haryana government on Friday announced it will set up women police stations in all the 21 districts of the state simultaneously on August 29, marking the Raksha Bandhan festival.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday reviewed the preparedness for opening women police stations in the state in a meeting attended by senior police officers.

Khattar said the all-women police stations would operate round-the-clock.

The chief minister said the women police stations would be inaugurated simultaneously in all districts on the eve of Raksha Bandhan on August 28 and will become functional from the following day.

He said counselling centres should be set up at these police stations to dispose off various matters like family disputes, dowry cases and others through mediation.

"Buildings of these police stations would be separate from that of main police stations to make them more visible to public," a state government spokesman later said.

"Each women police station would have one lady deputy superintendent of police, two sub-inspectors, three assistant sub-inspectors, four head constables and 16 constables," the official added.

These women police stations will have jeeps and motorbikes at their disposal with women police drivers. "All the 35 women PCRs (police control room) vehicles would be attached to these women police stations," the spokesman said.
