Haryana Political Crisis: JJP Leader Dushyant Chautala Demands Floor Test
Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader and former BJP ally Dushyant Chautala has called for a floor test in the Haryana state assembly to determine the current government's majority. This move comes after three Independent MLAs withdrew their support from the BJP government and pledged their support to the Congress party.
In a letter to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Chautala urged for an immediate floor test to be conducted, stating, "Given the developments and the clear stance of the JJP, which does not support the present government and is open to backing any other political party for government formation, it is evident that the incumbent government no longer commands a majority in the legislative assembly."

Chautala emphasized that the current political situation in Haryana indicates that the present state government is in the minority. He stated, "We do not support the current government, and our doors are open to support any other political party in forming the government in Haryana."
Chautala further explained that it is now up to the Congress to initiate a floor test. If the government fails to demonstrate majority support, the Governor can impose President's Rule in the state.
The demand for a floor test follows the withdrawal of support by three Independent MLAs from the BJP faction to the Congress faction. These independent candidates, who previously sided with the BJP, have now declared their support for the Congress.
Chautala also announced that the JJP would vote against the Nayab Singh Saini-led government in case a no-confidence motion is moved by the Leader of the Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He stated that the JJP would provide support from the outside to facilitate the government's downfall.
It is noteworthy that the JJP, an offshoot of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), holds 10 seats in the 90-seat Haryana assembly. The party entered into an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in October 2019 to establish a coalition government, which dissolved in March of this year.
