Haryana Police Launch Inquiry into Sexual Harassment Allegations Against IPS Officer Amidst Social Media Claims

The Haryana Police have initiated an investigation following the emergence of a letter on social media accusing an IPS officer of sexually harassing female officers. Hisar Range Additional DGP M Ravi Kiran confirmed that a fact-finding inquiry is underway. The accused officer himself has requested a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Haryana Police Investigate IPS Officers Allegations

Fatehabad Superintendent of Police, Astha Modi, has been appointed to lead the probe. She is expected to submit her findings to the department. The letter, reportedly signed by seven female officers and addressed to the chief minister, surfaced online on Friday. It accuses an IPS officer stationed in a Haryana district of misconduct.

Allegations and Reactions

The letter also claims that two female police personnel from the district were involved with the IPS officer in the alleged misconduct. In response, Haryana Women Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia stated they have contacted the director general of police to address the issue. Bhatia mentioned that the Commission plans to summon the accused officer.

Bhatia further encouraged the female officers to come forward and share their experiences. Wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat has also voiced her opinion on the matter. She demanded justice for those affected and punishment for those found guilty.

Public Support and Political Context

In a post on X, Congress MLA from Julana expressed skepticism about justice being served by either the Haryana government or the Centre. "Their voices must have either been suppressed by now, or are being suppressed every day... But just as every section of society supported us, we and the entire society are also with them. The culprits should be punished," she stated.

Phogat, who transitioned into politics this year after retiring from wrestling, has been active in advocating for justice. She, along with wrestler Bajrang Punia, was prominent in protests against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The investigation into these serious allegations continues as authorities seek to uncover the truth behind these claims. The outcome will be closely watched by both public figures and citizens alike, reflecting broader societal concerns about accountability and justice within law enforcement agencies.
