After massive protests, Haryana Police arrests Rampal from his ashram

Hisar, Nov 19: After days of drama and protests Sant Rampal was arrested from his ashram in Hisar by the Haryana police.

Rampal was taken from his ashram to a hospital for medical examination in Chandigarh. The police before his arrest had to evacuate close to 14000 supporters, who were holed up in Rampal's ashram.

News reports suggest that supporters were being used as shield in order to avoid Rampal's arrest.

"Rampal will be produced in Hisar court tomorrow: "SP, Panipat Satish Balan said. Rampal was slapped with sedition charges earlier on Wednesday.

Earlier, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had asked Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar to bring about an early end to the stand-off between police and supporters of Rampal in Hisar, amid indications of unhappiness at the Centre about the way the issue was handled by the state government.
