Thirty-five individuals from Haryana were recently deported from the US, expressing dejection over their return. Most were handcuffed during the flight and have now reunited with their families.

Among those deported, 16 were from Karnal, 14 from Kaithal, and five from Kurukshetra. They were subsequently taken to their respective districts and reunited with their families. Karnal Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia confirmed that the deportees came from various villages within the district.

Deportation Details and Financial Strain

Kaithal Deputy Superintendent of Police Lalit Kumar stated that 14 men were transported from Delhi airport to Kaithal Police Lines on Sunday. These men had taken a dangerous route to enter the US. The group included individuals from Kalayat, Pundri, Kaithal, Dhand, and Guhla blocks.

The deportees, mostly aged between 25 and 40, expressed disappointment over their return. They had invested significant amounts of money by selling land, borrowing funds, and using savings to migrate to the US for better opportunities.

Financial Burden and Difficult Journey

Naresh Kumar shared his experience of paying Rs 57 lakh to an agent who promised him entry into the US. Initially quoted Rs 42 lakh, he ended up paying more due to additional costs. He sold land and borrowed money to cover these expenses.

Naresh Kumar revealed that it took him two months via a perilous route to reach the US. He advised against taking such risks after spending 14 months in jail before being sent back to India.

Legal Implications and Previous Deportations

The Kaithal DSP noted that no formal complaints against agents have been filed yet. However, one deportee faces charges under the Excise Act. The list of deportees includes Naresh Kumar from Taragarh village and others from various localities in Kaithal.

Earlier this year, several youths from Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat faced deportation by American authorities. Since Donald Trump became US President in January this year, there has been a crackdown on illegal immigrants by law enforcement agencies.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by those seeking better prospects abroad through illegal means. It underscores the financial burden and risks involved in such endeavours.
