Haryana Assembly elections 2024: AAP To Contest All 90 Seats, Announces List Of 20 Candidates

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unveiled its initial list of 20 candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections in 2024 on Monday. This announcement comes amid ongoing discussions between AAP and Congress regarding seat-sharing for the Haryana polls, continuing their alliance under the I.N.D.I.A bloc for the Lok Sabha elections next year. Senior AAP leader Anurag Dhanda has been fielded from the Kalyat seat.

Interestingly, AAP has nominated candidates in 11 constituencies where Congress had already announced its nominees. These constituencies include Uchana Kalan, Meham, Badshahpur, Narayangarh, Samalkha, Dabwali, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Badli, Beri, and Mahendragarh. This move indicates a direct contest between AAP and Congress in these areas.

Seat-Sharing Talks

Earlier on Monday, Sushil Gupta, the state unit chief of AAP in Haryana, increased pressure on Congress by stating that his party would announce candidates for all 90 seats if an agreement was not reached by evening. The deadline for filing nominations is September 12, with polling set for October 5.

The negotiations between Congress and AAP have hit a snag over the number of seats each party will contest. Sources within AAP revealed that while Kejriwal's party is demanding 10 seats, Congress is only willing to offer five.

Upcoming Deadlines

The last date to file nominations for the Haryana election is September 12. Voting will take place on October 5. Both parties are under pressure to finalize their seat-sharing arrangement soon to prepare adequately for the upcoming elections.

"If we do not reach an agreement by today evening, we will release names for all 90 seats," said Sushil Gupta earlier in the day. This statement underscores the urgency and tension surrounding these negotiations.

The announcement of candidates by AAP at this juncture highlights their readiness to contest independently if necessary. It also puts additional pressure on Congress to come to a mutually agreeable solution quickly.

The political landscape in Haryana is heating up as both parties strategize and position themselves ahead of the crucial assembly elections. The outcome of these negotiations could significantly impact their performance in both state and national elections next year.
