Haryana: 500 Students Accuse Professor Of Sexual Assault; Write To PM Modi, CM Khattar

Around 500 female students of Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa in Haryana have accused a professor of sexual assault and sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and the state women's commission demanding action against him.

Copies of the letter have been dispatched to Vice Chancellor Dr Ajmer Singh Malik, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij, and National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma, along with senior state government officials and specific media organizations.

The letter levels accusations against the professor for engaging in "filthy and obscene acts."

As per a report in The Times Of India, this is the fourth such letter written by the students after the university's internal complaints committee which has allegedly given a clean chit twice to the accused.

"He calls us individually to his office bathroom and touches us inappropriately...When we protested against this, he threatened us with dire consequences," they said.

The vice chancellor has allegedly failed to take any action against the professor rather warned the students of suspending them from the institution.

"We can't write out names and contact numbers as it will malign our own image if no action is taken by the professor. The dignity of our family will be at stake. He has political influence and has threatened to get us expelled if we speak against him," the letter added.

The students further claimed that the professor had already destroyed all evidence, including the CCTV footage from his office.

University Registrar Dr Rajesh Kumar Bansal confirmed the receipt of the letter and stated that a university committee is currently investigating the allegations. "Action will only be taken afterwards. Whoever is guilty will not be spared but if someone is innocent then their character should not be assassinated," he told NDTV.

However, the professor has dismissed the allegations. "I am being targeted because I have been active in some work at the university. I am ready to face any probe against me. This is nothing but political vendetta," he told the daily.
