Harnessing Goa's Sporting Potential: PM Modi's Roadmap For Youth Development
Goa, a state deeply rooted in football culture with a passionate fan base and a rich tradition in the sport, has witnessed remarkable growth in sports infrastructure under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state, known for producing talented footballers who have represented teams nationally and internationally, is now poised to become a premier sporting destination.
The 37th edition of the National Games, held in Goa from October 26 to November 9, 2023, marked a significant milestone in the state's sporting journey. The multi-sport event featured a record 43 sporting disciplines, including debuts for beach football, roll ball, golf, sepaktakraw, sqay martial arts, kalaripayattu and Pencak silat.
Coastal and tidal rowing were also introduced for the first time in the history of the Games, attracting 10,000 athletes from 28 states and eight union territories.

The Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) in Goa has been garnering accolades for the exceptional achievements of its athletes in various competitive sports tournaments. Designed to accommodate ninety athletes, with thirty in each discipline in its residential academy, the KISCE has already admitted forty-seven athletes in its first year.
The government has announced plans to establish 'Khelo Goa Centres' in all talukas of the state, boosting infrastructure for sports with a fund allocation of Rs 30 lakh.
The Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium and Athletic Stadium Bambolim serve as essential sporting venues, providing state-of-the-art facilities for various indoor and outdoor sports activities, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, and athletics. These stadiums offer opportunities for the youth to engage in physical activities and recreational sports, fostering a culture of fitness and sportsmanship.
Under the Modi Ji-led government, the National Games, Khelo India Centres of Excellence and numerous stadiums built in Goa are a tremendous boost for sports in the state. The Central government, with its aim to establish a thriving sports ecosystem in Goa, has swiftly developed state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The vision is to leverage Goa's breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant culture to position the state as a premier destination for sports enthusiasts worldwide, transforming it into a global hub for sporting events and activities.
