Gurugram Lawyer Naveen Rana Arrested for Selling Land of Deceased Man Who Died in 1993

Naveen Rana, a lawyer from Gurugram, was arrested for allegedly selling land belonging to Om Prakash, who died in 1993. He opened a bank account using forged documents and defrauded a company of Rs 46.50 lakh.

A 40-year-old lawyer, Naveen Rana, has been detained for allegedly defrauding a company by selling land owned by a deceased individual. The person in question, Om Prakash, passed away in 1993. Rana, from Bajghera village, also opened a bank account in Prakash's name using counterfeit documents, according to officials.

In December 2015, a bank account was opened at Axis Bank's Palam Vihar branch under the name Om Prakash. The manager of the Sadar Bazar branch reported this on September 10, 2024. Two days after the account's creation, Rs 46.50 lakh was deposited into it. The bank subsequently froze the account on January 1, 2016.

Fraudulent Activities Uncovered

In October 2016, the account was moved to the Sadar Bazar branch. Angel Buildtech Private Limited filed a complaint in 2018, stating they paid Rs 46.50 lakh to Om Prakash for land purchase. They later discovered that the real Om Prakash had died in 1993. Investigators revealed that Rana used forged documents to open the account.

In May 2023, Rana again impersonated Om Prakash and submitted a fake sale deed related to the company. This act led to the unfreezing of the previously frozen account. Following this, he transferred Rs 59,72,608, including interest, to his personal account via NEFT and IMPS.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

An FIR was lodged at Shivaji Nagar police station, and the case was assigned to the Economic Offences Wing-II. They arrested Rana on Wednesday. "During interrogation, the accused admitted that he practised law at the Gurugram court and was acquainted with Om Prakash, who died in 1993. Posing as him, he sold the land in Bajghera and later siphoned off the money after getting the frozen bank account unfrozen using forged documents," a Gurugram police spokesperson said.

The investigation is still ongoing as authorities continue to gather more evidence against Rana. Police are working diligently to uncover any additional fraudulent activities linked to this case.
