Greater Noida To Get Footpaths Made Of Waste Material

Greater Noida is set to become the first city in India to use paver block tiles made from waste material to build footpaths.

In a bid to promote eco-friendly infrastructure, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is planning to partner with the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to construct footpaths using paver block tiles made from waste material. If implemented, Greater Noida will become the first city in India to use this innovative technology.

Collaboration with CRRI

During a presentation to the GNIDA, CRRI representatives showcased the successful implementation of paver block tiles made from waste material in other countries. Impressed by the concept, the GNIDA expressed its willingness to collaborate with CRRI to bring this technology to Greater Noida. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two entities is expected to be signed within the next two weeks.

Benefits of Waste Material Tiles

The paver block tiles made from waste material offer several advantages over traditional tiles. They are eco-friendly, as they utilize waste materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. These tiles are also durable and long-lasting, requiring minimal maintenance. Additionally, they can be produced at affordable rates, resulting in cost savings for the GNIDA.

Use of Polythene and Construction Waste

The GNIDA plans to use paver block tiles prepared from polythene and other construction waste materials. The authority will provide the waste material to CRRI, which in turn will produce the tiles and supply them to the GNIDA at reasonable rates. This collaboration will not only help in managing waste but also contribute to the development of sustainable infrastructure.

Model Roads and Future Plans

The GNIDA has instructed all local work circles to identify model roads where CRRI's paver block tiles can be used for constructing footpaths. Once the MoU is signed, CRRI will provide consultancy services to the GNIDA in various areas, including methods to make roads in Greater Noida eco-friendly, preparing estimates for road construction using modern technology, and enhancing the overall quality of roads.

The GNIDA's initiative to construct footpaths using paver block tiles made from waste material aligns with its commitment to sustainable development. This project not only promotes eco-friendly practices but also provides a cost-effective and durable solution for footpath construction. By partnering with CRRI, the GNIDA aims to set a precedent for other cities in India and contribute to the creation of a greener and more sustainable urban environment.
