Gorkhaland agitation: GJM office set on fire by miscreants in Darjeeling
On Wednesday night, the office of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) located in Chowk Bazar, Darjeeling, was set on fire by a group of miscreants.
Darjeeling, August 10: Violence continues to rock the hills of Darjeeling and its neigbouring areas where an indefinite bandh is on as a part of the Gorkhaland agitation since June.
On Wednesday night, the office of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) located in Chowk Bazar, Darjeeling, was set on fire by a group of miscreants, according to reports.

The supporters of the GJM alleged that the attack on their office was the handiwork of their opponents who did not want them to continue with their protest of demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland for the Nepali-speaking people staying in the hills of North Bengal.
It is the GJM which is spearheading the current agitation in the hills to carve out a new state from the West Bengal. The Mamata Banerjee government has opposed the demand of the Gorkhas tooth and nail.
While the Bengal government has rejected the idea of a separate state, the Centre is maintaining a wait and watch policy.
It looks like the Centre is in no mood to look into the demand of the Gorkhas. In July, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre made it clear that there was no proposal to constitute a committee to look into the separate state demand of the Gorkhas in Darjeeling and its adjoining areas.
The indefinite bandh in Darjeeling entered its 57th day on Thursday. Life has come to a standstill due to the ongoing strike. Since the bandh started, schools, offices and shops remained closed in the hills. The people of Darjeeling and its suburbs are facing severe food crisis.
