Gorakhpur tragedy: CM Yogi directs FIR against principal of BRD hospital, 5 others
The Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Kumar has submitted a detailed report to CM Yogi Adityanath on the deaths of over 70 children earlier in August due to alleged disruption in oxygen supply at Gorakhpur's BRD hospital.
Adityanath has directed registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against principal of Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College and five others in the incident.
The four-member inquiry panel is headed by chief secretary Rajive Kumar and comprises Alok Kumar, secretary health, Mukesh Mittal, secretary finance and Dr Hem Chandra, medical superintendent of SGPGI, Lucknow.
Around 105 children have died in the state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, the parliamentary constituency of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in the last five days.
Reports suggest the deaths were caused by the spread of encephalitis and lack of oxygen supply in the paediatrics ward.
Following the incident, the UP government had suspended Dr Mishra. It also shunted Dr Kafeel Khan on charges of laxity. UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath had said that the deaths had been caused due to Encephalitis and not lack of oxygen.
