Golden Temple Bomb Threats Prompt Congress MP to Urge Punjab CM Mann to Visit Amritsar
Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla criticised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for not visiting Amritsar despite threats to the Golden Temple. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) received several emails threatening to blow up the temple. Aujla emphasised that both central and state governments are responsible for the temple's security. "Today is the sixth day of these threats, but Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has not come here even once," said Aujla.

SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami revealed that since July 14, five threatening emails have been received. Despite police detaining a suspect from Faridabad, another threat email was sent. Aujla urged CM Mann to address the public and provide full details about the situation. He questioned why Mann had not yet visited Amritsar, highlighting the concerns of devotees.
Security Concerns at Golden Temple
The Congress leader expressed that devotees are anxious due to these bomb threats. He criticised the AAP government, stating that hiding will not resolve the issue. Aujla mentioned his ongoing communication with the SGPC and stressed the need for a swift resolution by the government.
MLA Rana Gurjit Singh called on the state government to take this matter seriously. He pointed out that technology can be used to track down criminals in today's age. "This is the age of technology, and criminals can be reached by using technology," he said.
Police Investigation and Government Response
Punjab Police reported on Friday that they have detained Shubam Dubey, a 24-year-old software engineer from Faridabad, in connection with the threats. His laptop and phone were confiscated, according to Amritsar Police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
CM Mann addressed the public on Thursday, urging them to disregard rumours. He assured that his government would ensure no compromise on state security. Mann held a meeting in Chandigarh with senior police officials, including Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, following the threat emails received by SGPC.
The situation remains tense as authorities work to ensure safety at the Golden Temple. The community awaits further updates from both state officials and law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
