Goa Police Arrest Councillor’s Son In Obscene Video And Exploitation Case, Multiple Victims Come Forward

A 20-year-old son of a councillor from the Curchorem Municipal Council in Goa has been arrested in connection with an alleged sex scandal involving multiple victims, after serious allegations of sexual exploitation and circulation of obscene videos surfaced. The accused, identified as Soham Naik, was taken into custody on March 22, police said.

Protests Outside Police Station Brought Case Into Focus

Police said that the case first came to light following protests by local residents outside the Curchorem police station, demanding swift action against the accused, the news agency reported.

The arrest followed growing public pressure and multiple allegations that emerged in the town, prompting authorities to intensify the investigation. The case has since drawn wider attention as more complainants have come forward with serious accusations.

Four Complaints Filed, Including Two Minors

According to officials, four females, including two minors, have so far filed formal complaints against Naik.

Among the complainants are two sisters, one of whom is a minor, who have accused him of rape and exploitation, as per the PTI. Police also said that the accused's girlfriend is among those who have approached authorities with allegations.

Investigators suspect that the number of complainants could increase as the inquiry moves ahead, with police indicating that more victims may come forward during the course of the probe.

Probe Transferred to Goa Police Crime Branch

The investigation has now been transferred to the Goa Police Crime Branch for a more detailed inquiry.

A senior official stated that statements from the victims have been recorded, and efforts are ongoing to identify and contact other potential victims linked to the case, according to the PTI. Police said the accused is currently in Crime Branch custody and that further investigation is underway.

The transfer of the case to the Crime Branch signals the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a broader probe into the extent of the alleged exploitation and circulation of obscene material.

Mobile Phone Sent for Forensic Examination, Multiple Charges Invoked

Officials said that Naik's mobile phone has been sent for forensic analysis to retrieve digital evidence, including videos and communication records.

Police have booked him under multiple legal provisions, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Goa Children's Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Information Technology Act.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clarified that neither the accused nor his father has any connection with the party, reported the PTI.

Police said the investigation remains at a crucial stage, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and pursue all leads to ensure justice for the victims.
