New Delhi, April 25: Metros, the popular mode of transportation across the world, are considered as melting pots where commuters irrespective of their class, creed, religion and gender, travel together.

The cosmopolitan culture of Delhi metro got a jolt recently, when a group of young men hurled abuses and threatened an elderly Muslim man for requesting them to give him a seat. The case reportedly took place in the violet line of Delhi Metro.

The shocking part was that the youngsters asked the elderly man, who was sporting a beard and wearing a skull cap, to 'go to Pakistan if he wants a seat in the metro'.

The incident has come to light at a time when India is witnessing several cases of persecution of people belonging to the minority community in the name of protecting cows by alleged cow vigilantes.

A witness to the case, Santosh Roy, told reporters that he decided to intervene when he saw an old man being abused and threatened by a group of youths. In fact, Roy asked the men to apologise to the elderly gentleman. Afterwards, the youngsters physically assaulted Roy and also asked him to 'go to Pakistan'.

Later, a metro guard at the Khan Market Station decided to take everyone to the Pandara Road police station to file a complaint against the alleged accused. However, a few days later the elderly man decided to withdraw his police complaint after the youths tendered an apology to him.
