The students also blocked the college road at Shaheedi chowk here and raised anti-government and anti-education department slogans, police said.

The students alleged that on one hand the state government has been trying to promote education in the district, but on the other it was not providing adequate staff in school.

"There is shortage of teachers of Mathematics, Urdu, Geography, Dogri, Science and other subjects for the past three months," one of the protesting student said.

She said that despite the repeated requests to the education department, no heed has been paid to their demands.
