Ghaziabad: VK Singh alleges witch hunting in Loni violence, SP fumes

Police had arrested BJP worker Karan Singh in connection with the case and sent him in jail. Another BJP worker Sandeep was found dead on railway track the night police had conducted raid in Loni.
VK Singh slammed the Ghaziabad police for selectively targeting his party workers in Loni, by implicating them in false cases, after meeting Karan and Sandeep's family on Sunday.
"Karan Singh is a party worker of BJP in Loni and has been implicated in false cases by the police, which was brought to the notice of General Singh," SP Singh, the Union minister's political attache, was quoted by TOI as saying, on Monday.
"Sandeep, whose dead body was reportedly found by the police on railway tracks, was also falsely implicated. His body was found on the same night the police conducted a raid in Loni. As he was found dead in suspicious circumstances, his family had demanded for an autopsy but the police turned it down," SP Singh added.
Meanwhile, rubbishing the charges of witch hunt the ruling Samajwadi Party has attacked VK Singh. "Actions being taken are strictly in accordance with the law. If someone is innocent, he cannot be implicated in a case and the state government will take due care. We don't have any qualms whatsoever about the sitting MP meeting the families of the accused. He is the local leader of the party and is free to meet anyone in his constituency," Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary was quoted by TOI as saying.
But questioning the Ghaziabad MP's another SP leader, AK Pandit, said, "Singh's secret meeting with the family of violence accused raises a question on his fairness. He should have thought before visiting the family."
Police had on August 26 arrested four persons in connection with the arson and violence in Loni.
The four - identified as Pradeep, Satyendra, Pankaj and Rajesh - were arrested on the basis of video footage of the incident, police said. In the footage, the accused were seen indulging in arson and stone-pelting.
