Gajendra Shekhawat Criticises Samajwadi Party Leader's Remarks on Rana Sanga's Legacy

Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat criticised Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman for his comments about Rajput warrior Rana Sanga. Shekhawat stated that only individuals with limited intellect and narrow perspectives make such remarks. A video recently emerged showing the Rajya Sabha MP claiming that Rana Sanga was a traitor who invited Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.

Shekhawat Critiques SP Leaders Comments

Rana Sanga, also known as Sangram Singh I, ruled Mewar from 1508 to 1528. Responding to the remarks, Shekhawat highlighted that Maharana Sanga's spirit of independence not only protected India from enslavement but also played a significant role in preserving India's culture. He emphasised that comparing Babur and Rana Sanga is inappropriate.

Controversial Remarks on Historical Figures

In the video, SP leader Ramji Lal Suman referred to the phrase "Babur ki aulad," suggesting that Muslims in India do not idolise the Mughal emperor. Instead, they regard Mohammed Sahab and Sufi saints' traditions as their ideals. He claimed that Rana Sanga invited Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.

Suman further stated, "If Muslims are Babur ki aulad (Babur's descendants), then you are the descendants of traitor Rana Sanga, this should be clear." This statement sparked controversy and drew criticism from various quarters.

Shekhawat expressed his belief that discussions comparing historical figures like Babur and Rana Sanga have no place. He conveyed this sentiment to reporters in Jaipur, stressing the importance of focusing on more constructive dialogues.

The debate over historical interpretations continues to evoke strong reactions in India. Such discussions often reflect broader societal tensions and differing perspectives on history and identity.

The controversy surrounding these remarks highlights the sensitivity of historical narratives in India. It underscores the need for careful consideration when discussing figures who have shaped the nation's past.
