Seven Feared Dead, Including Four Children, After Boat Capsizes in Matatila Dam

In Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, a tragic incident occurred when a boat capsized in the Matatila dam. The boat was carrying 15 people, including women and children, to a temple on an island. Unfortunately, three women and four children are feared drowned. Eight individuals were rescued with the help of local villagers.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in this unfortunate event. He announced financial aid of Rs 2 lakh for each family of the deceased. The Chief Minister also confirmed that eight people were safely rescued with assistance from the district administration, local citizens, and NDRF personnel.

The incident unfolded when water began entering the boat, as observed by a woman on board. The boat was en route to Siddha Baba temple, located on an island in the dam. Pichhores Sub Divisional Officer of Police Prashant Sharma stated that a search operation involving divers has been initiated to locate the missing individuals.

Details of the Incident

The boat was transporting devotees from Rajavan village to the temple situated in the middle of Matatila dam. Eyewitnesses reported that water started gushing into the boat, leading to its sinking. The ages of the missing women range from 35 to 55 years, while the children are between seven and 15 years old.

In a post on X, CM Yadav conveyed his sorrow over the untimely deaths caused by this incident. He stated, "My sympathies are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief." The Chief Minister has instructed that financial assistance be released from his discretionary fund to support the families affected by this tragedy.

The boat capsized under Khaniyadhana police station's jurisdiction while heading towards Siddh Baba Temple. Villagers played a crucial role in rescuing eight people from the water. The search for those still missing continues as authorities work tirelessly to bring closure to this distressing event.
