Fortune favours the brave. This one line is sufficient to define the brave Central Reserve Police Force Commandant Chetan Cheetah. After being shot nine times during an encounter with terrorists in Kashmir, he made a remarkable recovery and was finally discharged from AIIMS on Wednesday. For his wife Uma, it is only half the battle won. "My final reward would be the day he dons his uniform and returns to work," she says.

His wife Uma Singh stood by him like a rock. She said she knew her husband would fight it out and win this battle too. "I know him from his school days. He is a man of commitment and is a fighter," she said. Uma recollected that fateful day when she joined her husband in the air ambulance in Srinagar. His eyes were closed and he was unconscious. "But the moment I saw that he was breathing, I knew he will make it," she said.

"The doctors would tell me he is in acoma. Whenever I would hold his hands he would respond by moving his fingers. That made me believe that he would fight and come back to me," she said.
