Former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya Passes Away In Kolkata At 80
Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal and CPM leader, passed away on a Thursday morning in Calcutta at the age of 80. He had been battling a long illness, and his passing was confirmed by his son, Suchetan Bhattacharya, according to reports from anadabazar.com.
During his tenure, Bhattacharya served as the second and last CPM Chief Minister of West Bengal, holding office for 11 consecutive years from 2000 to 2011, under the Left Front's 34-year rule in the state.

He had been admitted to a private hospital in Alipore, Calcutta, on July 29, 2023, due to multiple ailments, including pneumonia, which required him to be placed on ventilation.
After showing signs of recovery, he was discharged on August 9, 2023.
