Former Himachal CM Jairam Thakur Narrowly Escapes Rockfall in Mandi; Urges Unity Amid Crisis

Former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and current Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, narrowly escaped a serious mishap on Saturday when a sudden rockfall struck his vehicle in the Shankar Dehra area of Mandi district.

The incident occurred as Thakur was traveling from Karsog to Thunag through the rain-hit Seraj valley. Acting swiftly, Thakur exited his vehicle moments before large stones from a hillside came crashing down, damaging the car but sparing him any injuries.

Eyewitnesses say his presence of mind likely saved his life. The incident has sparked concerns over increasing landslide risks amid relentless rainfall in the state.

"We Must Unite, Not Politicize the Crisis": Jairam Thakur

Following the close call, Jairam Thakur made a public appeal to both the government and opposition to put aside differences and work together in the face of natural calamities.

"This is a time for compassion and coordinated action, not politics. We must unite to support our people," said Thakur, urging the administration to expedite rescue and relief operations.

Landslide Strikes Nearby, Relief Efforts Underway

Soon after the rockfall incident, a massive landslide in the nearby Dharwar Thach area caused widespread damage-destroying houses and cutting off road access. Heavy rain continues to hamper evacuation efforts, putting additional pressure on disaster response teams.

IMD Sounds Red Alert for Region
