Former Andhra CM Jagan Writes A Letter To PM Modi, Urges Him To Ensure Fair Delimitation Exercise
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and President of the YSR Congress Party, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to ensure that the upcoming delimitation process does not result in any state losing its representation in the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.
On behalf of the party, YSRCP Parliamentary leader YV Subba Reddy has also sent a similar letter to DMK leaders, stressing the importance of a fair and balanced approach to delimitation.

In his letter, Reddy called for an amendment to Article 81(2)(a) of the Indian Constitution to guarantee a proportional increase in parliamentary seats for all states. He wrote, "Sir, if maintaining the ratio as per the Constitutional provision is mandatory, it could conflict with the Union Home Minister's assurance.
Therefore, I urge for a Constitutional amendment to ensure a proportionate increase in seats for each state. This would prevent any state from losing its share of representation in the Lok Sabha. Given the potential of this issue to disrupt social and political harmony, your leadership and guidance are crucial. An assurance from you would help alleviate the concerns of many states."
Meanwhile, the first meeting of the Joint Action Committee is taking place in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, addressing the gathering, clarified that the protest is not against delimitation itself but against unfair practices. He stated, "India is a diverse nation with multiple cultures. If delimitation is based solely on population, states like ours, which have taken steps to control population growth, will suffer reduced representation in Parliament. We must firmly oppose delimitation based on current population figures. This protest is not against delimitation but for fair delimitation."
Stalin has called for a united effort from political parties to oppose what he termed a "blatant assault on federalism." He organized the Joint Action Committee meeting in Chennai, inviting representatives from various parties to join the cause.
The Tamil Nadu government, led by MK Stalin, has been at odds with the Central government over issues such as the three-language formula in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the delimitation exercise.
