For alleged role in rape of a minor, madrasa cleric arrested

A 34-year-old cleric in a madrasa where a minor girl was raped by a juvenile was arrested. He was taken into custody as he was aware of the crime, the police said.

The girl was allegedly kidnapped from east Delhi's Ghazipur. Ghulam Shahid was taken into custody. The probe was transferred to the crime branch on Thursday. The girl was rescued on April 22 from the madrasa by a team of the Delhi police. The police swung into action following a missing complaint by the father.

The girl was rescued from the madrasa and the juvenile too has been apprehended. He was apprehended after the medical examination confirmed that the girl had been raped. The girl in her statement said that she was taken to the madrasa by the 17-year-old on the pretext of meeting his friends. The parents had demanded the arrest of the cleric alleging that he was aware of the crime.
