Fly India Fly:IndiGo follows SpiceJet,gives lavish discount on tickets

IndiGo offered discounted tickets for advance purchases this quarter. According to sources, Air India too may join the club soon.
Earlier SpiceJet gave an offer of 50 per cent discount in domestic flight tickets. Officials of the budget airline informed that people can avail 50 percent discount for all domestic tickets booked between Jan 21 and Jan 23. According to the offer, a minimum 30 days advance purchase is must to avail of the discount.
Air India too may join SpiceJet and IndiGo in near future
The officials also claimed that the sudden discounts will not impact the company's margins and was solely aimed at increasing the passenger load factor. SL Narayanan, Group CFO, Sun Group, while speaking to media, said he expects no impact on margins as a result of the discounts.
One industry veteran, meanwhile, said, "We don't know how many seats each airline will offer under such discounts. Besides, even under normal circumstances, 30-day advance purchase fares are close to half the price of spot fares so this is not so much a discount as it is a marketing gimmick."
President of travel portal Yatra.com -- Sharat Dhall, however, said, "SpiceJet and Indigo slashing airfares for advance purchase across sectors is an attempt to garner early bookings for the coming summer season. The airlines are offering airfares as low as Rs 3,355 for the Delhi-Mumbai route where the spot fares are as high as Rs.10,098. With other airlines likely to follow suit, travellers are finally getting a respite from the high airfares and will take advantage of these great prices to book their holidays in advance."
