Five-Year-Old Boy Protects Deceased Father and Unconscious Mother Overnight in Odisha Forest

In a tragic incident in Odisha, a five-year-old boy spent the night guarding his deceased father and unconscious mother in a forest after they consumed pesticide. The child sought help at dawn, highlighting the dire circumstances faced by the family.

A tragic event unfolded in Odisha’s Deogarh district when a five-year-old boy spent a cold night alone in the forest. He stayed with his deceased father and unconscious mother before seeking help the next morning. The incident came to light when the boy was found asking for assistance from people passing by on the road near the forest.

According to police, Dushmant Majhi and Rinki Majhi, residents of Jianantapali village, consumed pesticide after a domestic argument while returning home on their motorcycle. They parked their bike by the roadside and walked about a kilometre into the forest, where they allegedly ingested the poison. Tragically, Dushmant died within an hour, and Rinki lost consciousness.

Child's Survival Amidst Tragedy

The young boy watched over his parents throughout the night. At sunrise, he went to the road to call for help. "While Dushmant died within an hour, his wife Rinki fell unconscious. The little son watched them lying on the ground," said Deogarh Additional SP, Dhiraj Chopdar. Sadly, Rinki later passed away during treatment at Chhendipada hospital in Angul district.

Despite being given pesticide by his parents, the child survived and was reported to be in good health after initial medical care. "The child was in good health and handed over to his grandparents after preliminary treatment," Chopdar confirmed. The authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the couple's dispute and why they carried pesticide while travelling.
