Mizoram MP K Vanlalvena Proposes Presidents Rule and Separate Administrative Units to Resolve Manipur Crisis
Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram, K Vanlalvena, has proposed creating separate administrative units for Meiteis and Kuki-Zos to resolve the ethnic conflict in Manipur. He also urged the removal of the N Biren Singh government and the imposition of President's Rule as an immediate measure to address the violence that has claimed over 250 lives since May last year.

Vanlalvena, a leader from BJP ally Mizo National Front (MNF), stated that President's Rule is necessary for an immediate solution. During this period, he suggested that the Centre should study the situation thoroughly and demarcate lands occupied by both Meiteis and tribal communities. "The hill tribes can't go to the valley. Similarly, the Meiteis no longer dare to go to the hill areas," he said.
Separate Administration Units Suggested
According to Vanlalvena, new administrative units should be established in areas occupied by both Meiteis and Kuki-Zo people to bring about a lasting resolution. He emphasised that the ethnic violence has spiralled beyond the control of the state government and police, whom he accused of bias. "It is high time that President's Rule is imposed, and the strength of the military, especially the Army, is used," he added.
However, Vanlalvena warned that President's Rule alone would not solve the crisis unless there are separate administrations for both communities. He claimed that the BJP-led government at the Centre hesitated to remove N Biren Singh's government to protect its image. "Had the Centre imposed President's Rule in the beginning, the ethnic violence would have been contained already," he asserted.
Political Reactions and Suggestions
MNF president Zoramthanga suggested that the Centre should engage in talks with representatives from both communities and the Manipur government to restore peace. Meanwhile, Mizoram Congress president Lal Thanzara accused both the Centre and Manipur government of lacking sincere efforts to end the conflict.
Lok Sabha member from Mizoram, Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, expressed his intention to raise this issue in the upcoming Parliament session. Vanlalvena further claimed that if Singh is removed, another individual from the same party and community might replace him, potentially worsening the situation. "There will be no lasting peace as long as the present government continues," he concluded.
