Manipur Police Successfully Recover 80% of Firearms Looted During Ukhrul Violence Incident
A mob looted 16 firearms from the Ukhrul police station in Manipur, which have now been recovered, according to police reports. Inspector General Operations IK Muivah stated that during a clash on October 2 between two villages, the mob stormed the station and took 20 firearms. With help from security forces, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and community leaders, 80% of these weapons have been retrieved.

Efforts continue to recover the remaining firearms. Among those retrieved are 9mm pistols, INSAS rifles, and AK-47 rifles. Muivah assured that the district's situation is stable, with security forces like the Manipur Rifles, Assam Rifles, and BSF monitoring closely alongside village leaders.
Security Forces and Community Cooperation
Assam Rifles officer Sanjeev Singh highlighted that control was regained with minimal or no force. "Jointly Assam Rifles, BSF and the police have ensured that no more violent incident takes place," he said. CSOs have significantly contributed to this effort. Singh urged continued de-escalation of tensions.
The conflict on October 2 resulted in four deaths and 20 injuries. It involved two Naga community groups from different villages disputing over land cleaning as part of Swachhata Abhiyan. Following the clash, prohibitory orders were enforced, and mobile internet services were suspended in the town.
Restoring Peace and Order
Muivah praised those involved in restoring peace as "noteworthy and praiseworthy." The collaboration between security forces and community leaders has been crucial in maintaining order. The focus remains on preventing further violence and ensuring long-term stability.
The recovery of firearms marks a significant step towards normalcy in the region. Continued cooperation among all parties is essential for sustaining peace and resolving underlying issues peacefully.
