Hyderabad Police Register FIR Against Yati Narsinghanand After AIMIM Complains About Derogatory Remarks

The Hyderabad Police have filed an FIR against Yati Narsinghanand, a temple head priest from Uttar Pradesh. This action follows a complaint by the AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, regarding alleged derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. The FIR was registered by the Cyber Crime police under relevant IT Act provisions. Owaisi shared the complaint and FIR on X, a social media platform.

FIR Against Yati Narsinghanand by AIMIM

Earlier, Owaisi and his party leaders submitted a complaint demanding Narsinghanand's arrest. Protests erupted in the old city area against the Hindutva leader. Owaisi met with Police Commissioner C V Anand and later informed reporters that the AIMIM's complaint had been sent to the cyber cell for further action. The police chief assured him that social media platforms would be notified to remove any objectionable remarks.

Hate Speech Allegations

Owaisi highlighted that Narsinghanand had previously been jailed for hate speech. One of his bail conditions was to refrain from making similar comments. Consequently, AIMIM is pushing for the cancellation of Narsinghanand's bail. The party's complaint included some of his alleged remarks, which they claim amount to hate speech.

Owaisi, who also serves as Hyderabad MP, referenced a Supreme Court ruling. He stated that authorities should take suo motu action whenever hate speech occurs. The complaint also called for action under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, alleging that individuals like Narsinghanand frequently make false statements targeting Islam.

Previous Incidents

The complaint mentioned similar comments made by others, including a TV journalist, Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh, and former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. These incidents involved derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad. Owaisi urged people to remain calm amidst these tensions.

In addition to AIMIM's efforts, some activists have also filed police complaints concerning this issue. They seek accountability for statements perceived as inflammatory or harmful to communal harmony.

The situation underscores ongoing tensions surrounding hate speech and its impact on community relations. Authorities are expected to address these concerns while maintaining public order and safety.
