Female Workers Quitting TCS As Work-From-Home Ends

Leading tech giant Tata Consultancy Services Ltd is reportedly witnessing a rise in resignations among female workers after the company ended remote working.

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. experienced increased attrition among women when they asked employees to return to work after the pandemic. This is unusual for the company, as historically, female attrition has been either lower or similar to that of male employees, according to a report in Bloomberg.

Female Workers Quit TCS As Work-From-Home Ends

According to Chief Human Resources Officer of TCS Milind Lakkad, more women employees have resigned after the company asked employees to come to the office.

"I would think working from home during the pandemic reset the domestic arrangements for some women, keeping them from returning to office," Chief Human Resources Officer of TCS Milind Lakkad is quoted as saying in the company's annual report last week. He added, "It is a setback to our efforts to promote gender diversity, but we are doubling down on it."

The IT company could retain employees by allowing them to work from home. This helped women to maintain work related to office and home duties. As it ended remote working, female employees are opting out of the company.

35 per cent of the workforce in the TCS, which reportedly has over 6 lakh employees, are women. In 2023, it had retained 38.1 per cent of its female employees, News18 reported. It has to be noted that three-fourths of the top positions were held by women in the tech company.

India's female labor force participation stands at a significantly lower 24 per cent, in contrast to China's 61 per cent as per World Bank data. This poses a risk to economic growth in India, which is the world's most populous nation, with women constituting approximately half of the population.
