Female Police Officers Vital in Curbing Crimes Against Women, Says Jharkhand Chief Secy
Jharkhand Chief Secretary L Khiangte stated on Friday that female police officers could significantly help reduce crimes against women. He emphasised this during the inaugural State-Level Women Police Conference. The government is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by women police personnel in the state.

Role of Women Police in Crime Prevention
Khiangte highlighted the importance of women police officers in tackling crimes against women. He noted, "The entire society is worried about increasing crime against women. In this environment, the responsibility of the police personnel, especially women police personnel, becomes important." He stressed the need for prompt action on crime reports and the crucial role women officers play in investigations and evidence collection.
He also mentioned that the government is committed to solving issues faced by women police officers. This includes providing better facilities and security at their workplaces. The conference aims to assist the government in making decisions regarding the service and security of these officers.
Government Initiatives and Recruitment Plans
The Chief Secretary revealed plans to increase the number of female police personnel in Jharkhand. Currently, only 5 per cent of the state's police force comprises women. Efforts are underway to boost this percentage through recruitment drives.
Director General and Inspector General of Police Anurag Gupta added that soon every police station would have a woman officer. Additionally, city police stations will have women as station in-charges.
Khiangte assured that the government would prioritise policy-making, basic amenities, and infrastructure improvements for women police officers. He stated, "Women police officers and personnel should get better facilities and security at the workplace."
This two-day conference is expected to guide the government in making various decisions concerning the service conditions and safety of women police officers and personnel.
The Chief Secretary reiterated that increasing the number of female police personnel is a priority. He said, "The number of women police personnel in the state should be as high as possible, and it was being considered to increase it."
In conclusion, Khiangte's statements reflect a strong commitment from the Jharkhand government towards enhancing the role and conditions of women police officers. This initiative aims to address both their professional challenges and contribute to reducing crimes against women.
