The blackmailers had allegedly demanded a large sum of money from him, causing immense mental distress.
AI Misuse Pushes Teen Into Depression
The student, enrolled in his second year of college, had been visibly disturbed for nearly two weeks before his death. According to his family, his phone was hacked and manipulated visuals were created using AI technology, showing him and his sisters in obscene content.
He had reportedly stopped eating properly, withdrawn from social interactions, and spent most of his time alone. His parents said he appeared deeply troubled and anxious about the incident.
Blackmail, Threats, and Final Conversations
Police investigation revealed that the teen had been in contact with a person identified as Sahil, who allegedly sent him the obscene visuals and demanded ₹20,000. Screenshots of their WhatsApp chats showed multiple audio and video calls between them, including one where the accused sent a location with the message, "aja mere paas" (come to me).
In one of their last exchanges, Sahil allegedly threatened to make the fake visuals viral on social media if the money was not paid. He also reportedly encouraged the teen to take his own life, even suggesting substances he could use to die by suicide.
Family Raises Allegations, Police Begin Probe
Overwhelmed by fear and humiliation, the teen consumed poisonous tablets around 7 pm on Saturday. His condition worsened soon after, and he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment.
"Someone had sent obscene videos and photos of my daughters to his phone and was threatening to make them viral. This distressed him. Due to the mental torture, he consumed poison. He was being harassed," said his father.
The family has alleged that more than one person may be involved in the blackmail. Based on their complaint, police have registered a case against two suspects, including one person known to the family.
Cybercrime and AI Misuse Under Investigation
Investigating officers confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway. "He had consumed poison and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment, where he died during treatment. The case is currently being investigated based on a complaint from his father. The mobile phone is being examined. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation," said the investigating officer.
Another senior officer described the incident as a "serious example of cybercrime and the misuse of AI technology," stressing the urgent need to address growing threats linked to deepfake and AI-generated content.
