Ex-Punjab Top Cop, Former Minister Wife Booked After FIR Over Son’s Death; Shocking Video Out

A high-profile death in Panchkula has sent shockwaves through Punjab's political and law enforcement circles. Aqil Akhtar, a 33-year-old lawyer and son of former Punjab minister Razia Sultana and ex-DGP Mohammed Mustafa, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence on October 16.

Initially dismissed as a possible drug overdose, the case has now escalated into a full-blown murder investigation.

Authorities registered an FIR against four family members-Mustafa, Sultana, Aqil's wife, and sister-after disturbing videos and social media posts surfaced, allegedly recorded by Aqil before his death. In these clips, Aqil claimed he was being emotionally tormented and feared being falsely implicated or killed by his own family.

"They want me jailed or dead," Aqil said in one video, accusing his mother and sister of conspiring against him. He also made explosive allegations about his father's relationship with his wife, suggesting she had married into the family under false pretenses.

Aqil described being sent to rehab despite being sober, and said his confinement was unjustified. He expressed confusion, paranoia, and desperation, questioning his mental health and even the paternity of his daughter. "Somebody, please help me," he pleaded.

In a later video, Aqil appeared to retract his earlier claims, attributing them to schizophrenia. He praised his family and apologized, but the footage ended abruptly with renewed fear: "Will they get me killed? They are all scoundrels."

SIT Formed to Investigate
Deputy Commissioner of Police Srishti Gupta confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case. Investigators will examine digital evidence, phone records, and witness statements. The viscera report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.

Talking about the case, Shrishti Gupta, DCP, Panchkula says, "Former DGP Mohammad Mustafa and former minister Razia Sultana's son, Aakil Akhtar was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in MDC, Panchkula. We received a complaint and based on that, we have now filed an FIR under sections of murder and conspiracy. F

IR has been registered against the family members, including the deceased's father, mother, sister, and wife. The complainant has expressed suspicions based on the allegations of foul play. There is a video that the deceased posted on social media in which he says that if he was found dead, there is a dying declaration in a diary and whether he was poisoned... We have included all of these in our investigation so that there is complete transparency and a fair investigation in this matter. We have immediately constituted an SIT under an ACP rank officer and on the basis of proper scientific evidence we are investigating. The viscera samples are under analysis, so whenever their report comes, the cause of death will be determined from that."
