Elphinstone FOB: Shiv Sena calls it BJP's 'empty promise and drama'

The Shiv Sena on Tuesday lashed out at the Union Government over its decision to ask the Army to build a new foot-over-bridge at Mumbai's Elphinstone road station.

Last month, a stampede at the Elphinstone Road station had left 23 people dead.

News agency ANI quoted Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant as saying, "No one can compete with the BJP when it comes to empty promises and drama."

Sawant also fumed over him not being informed about Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman visiting the Elphinstine road station, which is located in his constituency.

Goyal and Sitharaman visited the site of Elphinstone stampede exactly after a month of the tragedy. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis was also present at the site of Elphinstone stampede.

"'I want to thank Railway Minister and Defence Minister. After Elphinstone stampede incident, we had asked for help from armed forces. By 31st Jan the bridge will be built,'' Fadnavis told the media.

The tragedy had occurred on a railway foot overbridge on 29 September 2017.
