Rs 258 Crore in Cash, Liquor Seized in Andhra Pradesh Pre-Elections
In a significant operation ahead of the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, authorities have confiscated a massive haul of cash, liquor, and drugs valued at Rs 258 crore. This crackdown, as detailed by Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy on April 3, underscores the state's rigorous efforts to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. The seizures were reported during a video conference with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar.

Andhra Pradesh, sharing its borders with five states, has heightened its vigilance through the establishment of 150 checkposts along its periphery. This strategic move aims to curb the inflow of illegal inducements into the state amidst the electoral fervor. The chief secretary highlighted the challenges posed by Maoist influences from neighboring Odisha and Chhattisgarh but reassured that these would be effectively managed through stringent security protocols.
Further detailing the security arrangements, it was revealed that 132 integrated checkposts have been operationalized within the state's confines. Additionally, a robust team comprising 632 flying squads is actively monitoring the situation around the clock to preempt any untoward incidents.
Focus on Maoist-Affected Polling Stations
Director General of Police (DGP) K V Rajendranath Reddy shared insights into the specific measures being adopted to secure polling stations identified as vulnerable to Maoist disruptions. A total of 91 polling stations fall under this category, and they are set to benefit from enhanced security to facilitate smooth voting. In an inter-state collaboration effort, Andhra Pradesh has reached out to Maharashtra for the return of 10 companies of its police force previously sent there, alongside requests for additional security forces to bolster its preparedness.
The video conference also saw participation from Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena among other officials, indicating a comprehensive approach to election management. With these meticulous preparations, Andhra Pradesh aims to ensure that the electoral process is conducted without any interference or manipulation.
Counting Day Scheduled
The culmination of these electoral efforts will be witnessed on June 4, when the counting of votes for both assembly and Lok Sabha elections is scheduled to take place. This day will mark a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh's political landscape, potentially shaping its future governance.
The proactive measures taken by Andhra Pradesh's authorities reflect their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. By seizing substantial amounts of cash, liquor, and drugs, and by implementing rigorous security arrangements, the state is setting a strong precedent for conducting elections in a free and fair manner.
