Eknath Shinde Celebrates Speakers Decision: A Triumph for Democracy
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde extols the Speakers verdict acknowledging his faction as the legitimate Shiv Sena, highlighting the importance of numbers and the triumph of democracy over autocracy and dynasty politics.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed jubilation over the decision made by Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, who recognized his faction as the legitimate Shiv Sena in the disqualification case involving several MLAs. Shinde viewed the ruling as a triumph for the Constitution and democracy, emphasizing that the individual opinions of party leaders do not represent the entire organization.

Speaker's Order Rejects Autocracy and Dynasty Politics
Shinde highlighted that the Speaker's order conveyed a clear message: no political party should be considered private property, and the decision stands against autocratic and dynastic politics. He underscored the significance of numbers in a democracy, asserting that his faction of the Shiv Sena surpassed the rival group led by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in terms of numerical strength. Shinde further noted that the Election Commission of India had already allocated the Shiv Sena's name and election symbol to his party.
Victory for Voters, Shiv Sainiks, and Constitutional Principles
Shinde expressed gratitude to the voters who supported the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance and to the Shiv Sainiks who remained loyal to the ideals of party founder Bal Thackeray. He declared that the Speaker's order represented a victory for the people, the Constitution, and democracy. In a veiled criticism of his predecessor, Thackeray, Shinde suggested that the verdict served as a lesson for those who disregarded ideals and formed unnatural alliances.
Speaker's Ruling Favors Shinde-led Faction
During the reading of his ruling on the disqualification petitions filed by both the Shinde-led Sena and the rival group headed by Thackeray, Speaker Narwekar determined that the Shinde faction constituted the genuine Shiv Sena when the party split became apparent in June 2022. Notably, the Speaker's decision did not result in the disqualification of any MLAs from either faction.
