Eight Dead, Several Injured In Road Accident On Hisar-Chandigarh National Highway

In a tragic accident, eight people lost their lives and eight others were injured when a truck collided with a Tata Magic vehicle carrying pilgrims in Haryana's Jind district. Among the deceased were three women. The victims were travelling from Kurukshetra to Guga Medi when the incident occurred on the Hisar-Chandigarh National Highway around 1 am on Tuesday.

The injured were initially taken to the government hospital in Narwana. However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to Agroha. The pilgrims, about 16 in total, hailed from Marchedi village in Kurukshetra and were heading to Gogamedi Dham in Rajasthan.

Accident Details

As they neared Birdhana village in Narwana at around 1 am, a speeding truck hit their Tata Magic from behind, causing it to plunge into a gorge. All the pilgrims were trapped inside the vehicle amidst screams and panic.

Witnesses in passing vehicles tried to rescue the trapped pilgrims but struggled due to darkness. The Narwana Sadar Police were informed and arrived at the scene with local residents' help. They managed to extract the injured from the wreckage.

The victims were rushed to the civil hospital in Narwana, where doctors declared eight of them dead. The site was filled with chaos as rescuers worked tirelessly to save those trapped inside.

"It was a horrifying scene," said one of the witnesses who tried to help. "We did our best, but it was too dark and chaotic."

This incident highlights the dangers of night-time travel on highways and underscores the need for better road safety measures. The local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and considering steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
