ED wants Sasikala to be present for trial in FERA case
The Enforcement Directorate has insisted that Sasikala Natarajan faces trial in a case registered under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act. This move by the ED comes after the Madras High Court had recently said that Sasikala and the other accused must face trial in the two-decade old case.
The ED wants her and the other co-accused to appear before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (Economic Offences) and face trial. It is however unclear if Sasikala will be present in person to face the trial.
Sasikala is currently serving a four year term after being convicted in connection with the disproportionate assets case. She had filed an application to be tried through video-conferencing from the Bengaluru jail. The application is still pending.
In case she is convicted in the FERA case, then she will have to spend additional time in jail. After the completion of her four year sentence in the DA case, she would be then taken to a jail in Tamil Nadu where she would have to serve the sentence awarded in the FERA case.
