ED tells Vijay Mallya to appear before it on April 2

New Delhi, March 18: Vijay Mallya former chairman of the UB group has been given a time extension by the Enforcement Directorate. Mallya who was to appear before the ED on Friday, March 18 had requested for extension of time. Now he will have to appear before the ED on April 2.

Mallya eho is said to be in London was summoned by the ED for questioning. The ED is probing several cases against Mallya who has been accused of defaulting on loans obtained from banks.

The ED today heeded to a request made by Mallya who had intimated yesterday that he needed time till April to appear for questiioning.Mallya has been told to appear in person for questioning.

The CBI too is probing several other cases against Mallya. The former chairman of the UB group had left the country on the day the debt recovery tribunal was hearing a case in which a directive was sought to stall the payment to him which was to be made by Diageo. The DRT had stayed the payment of Rs 515 crore.

The next day the banks moved the Supreme Court seeking a directive not to allow Mallya to leave the country.

However, during the hearing the court was told by the government that Mallya had left the country already.

The CBI had issued a look out circular last year barring him from leaving the country. However, the circular was amended and the immigration instructed to inform if he was leaving the country.
